An Accounting of Things

In a post-flood America, troops are dispatched to the homes and apartments of citizens, tasked with retrieving the nation’s personal belongings. Sorted by nature, the belongings are kept in a large department store, a cross between a warehouse and a Walmart. Citizens have the option of buying back their belongings­­–if they can find them–or else, opting to take on the life of someone else. A third option goes unsaid–to leave life behind altogether.
